Richard Douglass was a veteran of the war serving from 1775 until 1781. He served as captain and served under Col. Herman swift. Douglass fought at Germantown, Monmouth, White Plains. A cooper by trade, Douglass later became a member of the Society of the Cincinnati.
Douglass suffered the depredations at the hands of the British in 1776 (Battle of Long Island) and again in 1781 when they burned his house.
